Usability is key in both web design and search optimisation. Using links to direct your users to specific pages is extremely important. If your site does not appeal or have good functionality, then is very certain your existing users will not return. Make sure you cater to all and include keywords that are relevant.

Absolutely. I've had to teach everyone here about usability so they champion it - which weirdly I touched on at uni when I did my theses (and I'm not saying how many decades ago *that* was).

Usability is key as you say. You won't convert a single soul if they can't use your website.

I had a 3 year running battle with IT on one site about this very issue.

Great post!

Great post Julie. Usability is totally underestimated. If SEO is the "daddy" of generating traffic, "usability" is the "mummy" of conversions.

I often say it's no point having a website if no one can find it, BUT I must admit it's no point in getting traffic if no one can USE it!

If you have already read "Don't make me think" by Steve Krug, I highly recommend it. Great book about usability!

I'll also add this to the usability piece but...if you want more information on SEO and usability there are lots of great bits out there that I found very useful. Here are a few notable items that I found to be quite good on the subject:
