I have to agree with you, at some point, we as humans, like to organise our own things and not have a system start taking over. My hopes is that the Google team will see blog posts like this, track tweets and basically see what the public are saying and adapt accordingly.

I, too, worry about the whole privacy thing, I have a lot of things I don't want every Tom, Dick and Harry seeing!

Yeah, that's the thing, if I weren't a Google bookmarks user, I don't think this would bother me so much, but I will certainly be doing an export of my bookmarks before this is activated on my account.

Further insight into what you have already touched upon;

"is there a risk here that people I’m connected to will see things I have bookmarked"

I thought along the same lines, luckily for me i use a different bookmarking service altogether and i do have history disabled while signed into my Google account. However it did sync bookmarks in what seemed to me to be a first pass of publicly shared info.

Initially i thought is it going to continue to bookmark every single post i ever write or every vendor platform login i visit on a sometimes several times a day basis?

Well luckily for me at least there is a "Delete All" link that will clean out these "first pass?" bookmarks.

To get back onto what i was saying, my first thought after deleting all of these "auto-bookmarked" sites was the privacy thing.

So in an inspired moment of genius or stupidity i thought if you are going to share anything about me Mr Google it will be what i want. So i simply (after deleting their version) starred all serp`s relating to me and no other.

What this means to others that have come to rely on Google Bookmarks and the organization of them will i suspect be a bloody nightmare, for me though i may be one of the lucky ones by using a different bookmarks provider.

Thanks for the mention Sarah
