Social Media is one of those things that every site owner needs to consider and hopefully develop a plan of attack when promoting their site, but it isn't the be all end all, as you suggested.

I get around a lot online (insert whore joke here) and until about 2 months ago, I didn't have a facebook account which was a huge surprise to most people who know me as I'm a big believer in the "it's who you know" philosophy.

In the offline business world, so many things happen because of WHO you know, not WHAT you know and it's no surprise that the online world is following suit.

I don't think Social media is going anywhere, but it will continue to evolve. Luckily though, even though WHO you know may get you in the door, you still have to have the goods to back it up.

Oh the wasted time...First, wait eons for each page on Facebook to load. Next, try to search for Julie Joyce so I can add her as a friend, and then poke her. Wait...wait...wait some more. Go through 4 pages of Julies and come to the conclusion that you dont have a clue which one it is. Not even sure if that's what I should be searching for. Bah, I'm too old for this. /sigh.

Woulda poked ya if i could've.

I once added up my latte costs per month and it was enough for another mortgage. Best not to look too carefully into things like how much time we waste.

Going to poke you now...

haha! That is an excellent post Julie, some very good points. I love reading your blogposts!

I'm such a facebook whore, that reminds me, need to poke you ;0) Seriously it's so feckin addictive, and totally a time eater. When I had the time management course the other week all I could think was, how much time could I save if I just didn't go on facebook for a day. I haven't checked as I think that would scare the crap out of me. I always thought that I didn't care what people thought of me, until facebook. All sorts of ridiculous insecurities pops up.

And I must admit the first month it was all so exciting to see what my friends I haven't seen since primary school are doing now, how many kids they have and all that. But what the hell are you going to talk about now at the school reunion?? "Saw you added some photos from your holiday...LAST WEEK!!"

I'm also quiet shocked over how many random friend requests I get, I have never seen you in my life??!! Then suddenly the scene from Cableguy where Jim Carrey is standing in the rain and says "don't you want to be my friend anymore" pops into my head and I feel all bad and add them anyway. Suddenly I have an additional 50 "friends" I've never met looking at my holiday photos knowing what I had for breakfast how drunk I was last night and so on. Scary! Not to mention when your clients start adding you.....(don't worry Andy it doesn't apply to you, you're hot) God help me, I'm going to get fired!

Anyway, must go, currently got a poke war with Scott Polk to settle!!
