OK, I pondered on whether or not to post about this, but then the naughty side of me decided that this type of creativity should at least be mentioned - if not showcased…

This morning when I opened my Inbox, I was greeted with one of the most poetic spam Subject lines I have ever come across:

Aaah - they almost managed to make is sound romantic. I know, I know, some of you may be cringing right now, but you have to admit that this is creative at least.

As a marketer, I am constantly noticing things that stand out - ‘purple cows’ - in the words of one of my favorite marketers - Seth Godin.

So here I am presenting to you a lesson in how to make your message stand out of the crowd - ‘purple cow’… hmmm.

  1. I’ve been getting about 10 of those spams every day for the past few weeks, they just started all of a sudden. They’ve become a bit of a highlight, the subject lines always make me giggle and the other day I recieved this gem… how’s this for “poetic”?!;

“She’s so attractive, she’s so nice!
But will your penile size suffice?
Not sure she will yearn for more?
You need a dong she would adore!
But how to grow it long and thick?
    Your only hope is MegaDik!
    You’ll get so wanted super-size
And see great pleasure in her eyes!
Your schlong will pound her box so deep,
    Tonight you’ll hardly fall asleep!”

There were a couple of other lines but I’ve removed them for the sake of keeping this post naughtily risqué instead of just plain grubby!

  4. Well, it seems spam isn’t totally useless after all. At least we can learn something about marketing by reading certain messages. Thanks for sharing this… hm… inspiring piece. :-P

I’ve just stumbled your post. :)

  5. Matt, that’s way better than my little headline :o)

I know most SPAM is a volumes game, but maybe the old stuff’s not working as well anymore.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not pro-spam, but some of the best and newest marketing tactics are often found in the adult industries…

  6. Anita you are a naughty little thing. So how do you know Howard? OK just kidding. Matt’s poem is brilliant. I absolutely have to admire a poetic effort.

I’ve gotten tons of MegaDik emails and naturally I always read them. I mean, it’s MegaDik! I’m actually a bit jealous of that poem to be honest. I wish I could write a dirty one that well. That’s serious class, that is.

  7. Why do us girls get these emails? I mean, is it to let us know that out there men are making the attempt to please us more…?

    Wait…

Are there men trying to please us more out there?

Did I miss the memo… AGAIN?

Loving your purple cow Anita and fab as always to hear from you!

  8. LOL - Julie, it’s not like I can sign up for those things ;o), or not that I know of anyway (blink — blink).

Matt, that poem… I can see it now - an elance project request stating - “Poet needed for a creative project with a difference…”

Judith, I’m afraid that’s a discussion that can go on for days and days - and I’m pretty sure no agreement will be reached - hahaha. But let’s say it must be a topic of some significance/concern, if most of this type of emails address it.
