*grins* We _ALL_ want to get sent stuff :D

Problem is we then have to write about it and when something is no good, we become torn between honesty and the chance for more free stuff.

One of the journalists I know got a free phone, free running shoes as well as other great free stuff this past year. Another for xmas for 3 or 4 HUGE hampers of stuff but these guys work their socks off writing to get that.

I went to a Google PR event and a wonderfully nice Googler gave me free chocolate - that was the most special freebie of the year (and not because he was cute - or a Googler!)

Geez I LOVE MY JOB!

Vanity is an excellent marketing tool. I have to admit that when I get sent stuff I do like to promote it through both word of mouth and writing.

Stephanie...you're dead on. We all look for a response to validate what we do. And yeah...this post was about you.

This post is about me... and yes I am vain. An excellent point made that the industry is very vain (especially bloggers)... I feel the reason for this in most cases is that the content we put out there is not always technical but personal.

The post you made about Chimps or Monkeys or whatever kinda post that was (j/k) was an extension of your humor in your work and any attack to your personality would definitely hit hard no matter who you are.

Yes- I am now an SEO chick and I am so proud :)

Being a blogger/writer it is important to remember that even negative feedback is good, just like in any realm of marketing. If a negative reaction comes from a campaign, it is still positive because it has created response. In my opinion, it is all about response... If you achieve response, you have succeeded!

Awesome quotes, funny thoughts and yet another great post Julie... There I tickled that vanity of yours...LOL

OK, but you raise a very good point, and if I may twist this point a bit further into the marketing realm... it is that inherent vanity in each and every potential customer, that a marketer can capitalise on. Not in a sinister way, but by targeting their messages in a way that appeals and satisfies those vanities...

The other point actually, is to say that vanity is not necessarily negative. If you see it as a driving force - then it can be very good for your business and your marketing. Just use it in a good way.

OK, now can someone please send Julie a food related offer...
