Social Media is often seen as the place for a company to be without the company understanding why they should be there. While you may see social media as a link building dream, it can be a branding nightmare. Judith Lewis, SEO Consultant with seshet.co.uk talks through her recent experience.

If Google Is Unable To Remember Its Own Rules …
Follow along with my little Twitter trip, if you don’t mind, so that we can all see the progression of how these little tidbits and factoids came to light.
On February 9th (2 days ago), I tweeted the following:
Google busted! Techcrunch reveals Google used pay per post. Um, ok. But Goog punishes others that do same. tsk tsk. http://cli.gs/BHdygD
Following that link takes us to a Techcrunch article that busts Google for using a service that pays bloggers to post about them. This is exactly the same kind of thing Google has punished others for in the past, starting with resetting PayPerPost bloggers toolbar PageRank to zero back in late 2007. It’s all just a part of the whole [...]
Blogging for A Variety of Sites
I blog for a variety of sites, including Search Engine Land (Link Week column), Search Marketing Gurus (coding and Women’s Marketing Interview series), Search Engine Journal (as a guest blogger discussing link building now and again), and my true love, SEO Chicks (where I say whatever I like, especially the stuff that no one else wants to publish.) “We’re trying different things, variety in [...]
The 7 Things That I Hope Will Happen at IM Spring Break

There may also be some attempted drunken fondling, and asses will be kicked.
2.There will be some dirty dancing going on with a redhead, a blonde, and a Rob Kerryesque young guy with connections at Sphinn. None of the three will remember it the next day, but photographic proof will, sadly, exist.
3.At least ten people will ask Chris Winfield [...]
Internet Marketer’s Give Back
Over the last year a small group of US based internet marketers formed a group called IM Charity, which is currently in the process of getting 5013c status (to become a non-profit). The group was formed so we could help use our talents for worthy causes. Currently, IM Charity helps to raise money for various charitable organizations through throwing fundraising events. In the future many of us will also donate time to non-profit organizations looking for a little help with their internet marketing strategy. Last year, through varous party’s at US search conferences like SES San Jose, SES NY and Scary SEO we raised nearly $100,000.
We’d like to start this year off on the right foot by throwing an IM [...]
